Ethics Resource Center Names VP/Communications

ARLINGTON, VA, April 22, 2008 – The Ethics Resource Center, a leading authority on trends and research in workplace ethics for business, government and nonprofits, has named Philip Smith as vice president for communications, a new position, ERC President Patricia Harned announced today.

Smith will oversee corporate communications, branding and marketing as ERC expands its role as a provider of independent research and analysis in the fields of ethics, compliance and social responsibility, Harned said.

“We are delighted that Phil is joining our team at a time when ERC is gaining real momentum as a respected source of data collection, analysis and advisory services to organizations looking to meet both legal and regulatory requirements and to build ethical cultures that have a measurable impact on their results,” Harned added.

Smith is a former Washington Post reporter and editor.  He served for four years as press secretary to U.S. Senator John Warner of Virginia, and later was senior vice president for corporate communications at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In recent years he has provided strategic communications advice to clients as an independent consultant.  He holds a bachelors degree from Yale University and a masters from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

The Ethics Resource Center publishes the annual National Workplace Ethics Survey and conducts the ERC Fellows Program, which promotes the sharing of ethical standards and best practices among many of the nation’s top ethics and compliance officers in business, government and nonprofit organizations.
