8th Annual Kiplinger Lecture
Explores Ethical Business
And World Peace
The eighth annual Willard M. Kiplinger lecture on Ethics in American Society, by George Washington University professor Timothy L. Fort, will explore how ethical business conduct can help reduce violence in the world.
The lecture is scheduled for 2 p.m. November 8 at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, MD (www.cedarlane.org).
The idea that trade between countries reduces conflict is an old one, says Fort. Now, there is an emerging understanding that trade alone is not enough. Genuine peace is attainable only if businesses adopt ethical practices, commit to the rule of law and act as good citizens.
Fort is Lindner-Gambal professor of business ethics and executive director of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility at the George Washington University School of Business. He is also professorial lecturer at the GW Law School.
The lecture series, funded by a grant from the Kiplinger Foundation, honors the memory of Willard M. Kiplinger, founder of The Kiplinger Washington Letter.
