    March 25, 2010

Every research study yields some surprises, but we never expected to see findings like the ones resulting from the 2009 update to our National Business Ethics Survey (NBES). One of the largest surprises was the apparent link between the state of the nation’s economy and the strength of ethics in the workplace.

    September 3, 2009

A financial blow-up of, say, AIG dimensions is nasty for the company involved, its employees and its shareholders.  It’s the legacy of the blow-up that the rest of us have to live with.

Huge growth in the size of the investing public in the past 20 years is one reason the premise probably is correct, said Michael Oxley, addressing the event co-hosted by ERC and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

The Ethics Role of Human Resources
    February 26, 2007
Although typically an ethics officer is responsible for developing an organization's ethics policies, creating communication related to the organization's code, planning ethics training programs, and overseeing the ethics reporting function, the most effective ethics officers know that it is also critical to operate as part of a team that brings together many different partners: finance, audit, operations, and especially human resources. These individuals enlist the help of other critical groups throughout their organizations, drawing on their knowledge and resources to embed ethics throughout the organization's culture.

    Season's Greetings
    December 20, 2006
Season's greetings from all of us at the Ethics Resource Center!  We thank you for the opportunity to work with you and the confidence you have in our organization.

    A Solid Foundation
    October 1, 2006
The launch of our fifth volume of ETO issues provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on how far we have come in the past year, and where we are headed with the next. You may recall that in the fall of last year, we unveiled a new logo and our 2005 National Business Ethics Survey, which included more participants and areas than ever before. Building on our history of performing comprehensive ethics surveys, we developed a survey method by which ERC could leverage its expertise to allow organizations to benchmark their ethics programs against the NBES figures and industry groups. To further that mission and add depth to our databank, we developed the Donate Your Data program to obtain and incorporate data from survey questions about ethics from any organization. Furthermore, we used aggregate research from surveys to develop a Webcast series on "Understanding, Affecting and Measuring Ethical Culture."
