About MAXIMize the Moment

MAXIMize the Moment or MAXIMize the Moment Junior (for schools)

MAXIMize the Moment (for middle and high schools) and MAXIMize the Moment Junior (for use with students in third to sixth grades) are character education tools available to middle and high schools throughout the United States via the ethics.org website.

MAXIMize the Moment messages use your homeroom announcements to stress good character in ways students will remember. Reinforce your character education efforts with materials suitable for any school, in any community.

Each lesson contains:

  • A maxim;
  • A brief discussion of a situation or event relevant to the maxim;
  • An explanation of related character traits;
  • A set of links to websites about the maxim's author or the week's issue; and,
  • A set of questions for teacher and student discussion.

MAXIMize Your Family Time and MAXIMize Your Family Time Junior (for home)

MAXIMize Your Family Time (for use with adolescents) and MAXIMize Your Family Time Junior (for use with children in third to sixth grades) are character education tools designed for children and their families. MAXIMize Your Family Time and MAXIMize Your Family Time Junior are designed as extensions of the school-based program, but can function independently if your child's school has not yet adopted the MAXIMize the Moment programs.

MAXIMize messages help you to use your family discussion time to promote good character by giving you an opportunity to discuss your beliefs about character with your child. Because MAXIMize messages incorporate time-honored maxims, current events, and issues that teens face, your child will remember the message of good character being addressed. MAXIMize messages will help you and your family to begin or continue having meaningful dialogues about issues relating to character.

Each lesson includes:

  • A maxim;
  • A brief discussion of a situation or events relevant to the maxim;
  • The list of questions suggested for use by homeroom teachers;
  • Background information about the character traits being discussed;
  • A set to links to websites about the maxim's author or the week's issue;
  • Tips for creating effective and meaningful dialogue with your child; and,
  • Discussion starter questions designed specifically for family use.
