Diana Braga, Communications Intern
Ethics Resource Center 2003
Diana Braga
As a student from Seton Hall University majoring in Communications and Spanish, with no real prior public relations work experience, I was ecstatic when I was offered the communications internship at the Ethics Resource Center (ERC). The ERC opened its doors to me and, over the next five months, provided me with real media relations experience.
The ERC broadened my horizons by allowing me to work in all aspects of its public relations programs, including media relations, general public relations, public awareness and education, and publications. One of the highlights of my experience was assisting the communications manager, Nicole Germain, with preparing for the National Business Ethics Survey 2003 Press Conference that was held at the National Press Club this past May.
The ERC awarded me with a unique and insightful first hand experience into the public relations world. Everyday the tight knit ERC staff provided me with an intellectually stimulating environment that allowed me to work on real-world projects and challenges that involved working with businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, and governments. In addition, as a result of the ERC's small size, I received a tremendous amount of personal attention and guidance that is not available in most internship programs.
The skills I learned at the ERC are undeniably invaluable. As I prepare to return to school this fall to complete my degrees in Communications and Spanish, I am more confident about my career skills, and will always remember the ERC for offering me such a challenging opportunity.
