Job Purpose

Responsible for supporting American Airlines’ world-wide operations by providing legal advice to all levels of Company management for ethics and compliance issues facing large, international companies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides practical, compliant, and strategic legal advice and counsel to management on all ethics and compliance issues
  • Conducts third party due diligence
  • Monitors and investigates reports from our EthicsPoint helpline, domestically and internationally
  • Conducts compliance risk assessments of business units and geographical areas to ensure compliance with the Company’s anti-corruption program
  • Develops and implements remediation plans based on internal and external audits, investigations, and reviews
  • Develops computer-based ethics and compliance training and develops and delivers in-person, specialized ethics and compliance training
  • Develops or updates ethics and compliance policies and processes
  • Manages day-to-day aspects of the Company’s international compliance program 
  • Performs other duties as required

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-approved law school, excellent academic record, and active member in good standing in at least one State bar; if you are not admitted to the State Bar of Texas, you must be eligible for immediate admission upon application
  • Five years of experience advising clients on ethics and compliance matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a law firm and in-house ethics and compliance
  • Ability to speak one or more foreign languages

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of multiple compliance areas, such as antitrust, anti-corruption, environmental, money laundering, copyright, or international trade
  • Ability to communicate complex issues
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to relocate, if not currently residing in Dallas area
  • Ability to fluently speak, read, and write Spanish for one of the positions
  • Ability to travel independently, including overnight trips of varying duration, domestically and internationally, and ability to hold a passport allowing unrestricted travel
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels both verbally and written
