Title: Development Manager

Strategic Area: Development

Reports to: Vice President, Development & Corporate Secretary

Established in October of 2014, the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI) is a strategic alliance between two longstanding and leading nonprofit organizations in the ethics and compliance field: the Ethics Research Center (ERC), a 501(c)(3) and the Ethics & Compliance Association (ECA), a 501(c)(6). ECI is dedicated to identifying, amplifying and certifying the practices that result in the highest level of integrity in organizations, worldwide.
The Development Manager will direct donor management, grant and foundation applications and the annual sponsorship program. This position is responsible for sourcing and developing grant opportunities and achieving annual revenue targets related to the ECI Integrity Leader Program and other fundraising campaigns. The Development Manager will be responsible for donor stewardship and communications, in addition to managing and tracking donor benefits and revenue metrics.

Responsibilities

Grant Development

  • Develop and grow foundation grant funding by researching prospects and finding new foundation and government funding sources to support existing ECI programs.
  • Write effective grant applications, develop outlines, timelines, templates and budgets.
  • Monitor outstanding grant proposals and manage deadlines, and follow up requirements.
  • Administer fulfillment of reporting requirements.

Donor Management

  • Oversee donor activities associated with the annual campaign, fundraising events, and other development campaigns, appeals and programs.
  • Monitor all donor and sponsor agreements to ensure recognition, benefit and acknowledgement requirements are met.
  • Write solicitation/thank you letters, development reports and marketing materials.
  • Manage and ensure accuracy of the donor database in SalesForce, develop grants and proposals, process donations, and oversee donor stewardship and cultivation.
  • Conduct research on prospective donors, sponsors, and award nominees.
  • Support VP Development in the completion of projects and any work assignments as requested

Sponsorship

  • Responsible to reach sponsor revenue targets through creation of sponsor opportunity packages, development of prospect lists and an annual solicitation strategy, referred to as the ECI Integrity Leader program.
  • Direct all aspects of conference and special event sponsorship and exhibitor relations, including cultivating, stewarding and communicating with sponsors, exhibit planning, on site management and follow up.
  • Oversee the RFP and contracting process for the annual conference exhibit hall show company and serve as its main point of contact.

Administrative/General

  • Process online and check donations by entering payments in donor management software, preparing charitable donation receipts and acknowledgement letters.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion with respect to board, donor, sponsor and prospect information.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications department to meet Development’s marketing needs.
  • Represent the association at industry trade shows, conferences, and events where opportunities for sponsor development exist.
  • Travel to attend one 5-day event annually.
  • Other duties as required as part of the ECI team may include covering the switchboard, assisting the research team in processing surveys, assisting the events team as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 3+ years of grant research and writing or a combination of education and experience in a nonprofit environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in fundraising, communications, English, event management or a related field of study.
  • Highly proficient in business applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, SalesForce, BoardEffect).
  • Direct, hands-on experience with fundraising, donor management and exhibit/sponsorship sales.
  • Self-motivated, organized, energetic, with a professional manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to think strategically while managing hands-on the day-to-day functions of the development program.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, ability to be flexible while juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective, helpful part of a team.
  • Ability to interact comfortably and appropriately with board members, VIPs and special guests.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proof reading skills.
  • Must be willing to work on site at the Vienna VA office.
  • Strong moral character and commitment to conducting business based upon principles of honesty, trust, respect and excellence.

Role:

ECI is looking for an eloquent and efficient writer to join our team on a part-time basis.  The content writer will support projects initiated by the CEO, as well as other content for the digital, print and social media outreach of the organization.  The successful candidate strives to understand ECI’s audiences and is willing to learn and write on a variety of topics including ethics, compliance, misconduct, regulatory change, and the drivers of a culture of integrity.  The content writer will produce well-researched and accurate content on tight deadlines. Familiarity with ECI’s primary research efforts including the High Quality Ethics & Compliance Program assessment (HQP®) and the findings of ECI’s Global Business Ethics Survey® will be essential.

Responsibilities

  • Developing speeches, presentations, proposals, and other communications for the CEO
  • Contributing to ECI’s blog Top of Mind and conversations in ECI’s online community
  • Supporting ECI’s PR and media push with research, drafts, copywriting and editing of requested print and broadcast materials
  • Brainstorming and collaborating with CEO on new ideas and strategies
  • Supporting the development of ECI research reports, as needed

Information about the position:

The Senior Survey Researcher will be responsible for managing ECI’s Global Business Ethics Survey (GBES), a large-scale global survey conducted annually to provide rich research content on workplace ethics for ECI’s membership and external stakeholders. The GBES is a longitudinal, cross-sectional study of integrity in the workplace from the employee’s perspective. Employees are surveyed on the strength of the ethics culture in their workplace, the instances of misconduct that they have observed, and what—if any—efforts are underway in their organization to promote integrity. The Senior Survey Researcher will determine the GBES survey methodology, manage the data collection effort with various vendors and develop a detailed data analysis and data dissemination plan. The person in this position will work closely with senior leadership and other team members to shape the direction of the research and resulting content ensuring that it is consumable by a variety of audiences. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the research process, data analysis, data visualization and the ability to use storytelling techniques with research content. Experience in conducting research on workplace topics is considered an asset.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead the questionnaire development for the GBES integrating perspectives from academic literature and trending ethics & compliance topics.
  • Determine the appropriate research plan and protocols including but not limited to assessing suitable methods to collect quantitative and qualitative data in a variety of countries.
  • Collect, validate and clean large volumes of structured and unstructured data using statistical analysis software and coding.
  • Conduct descriptive and advanced statistical analysis. Develop statistical models and/or tests to analyze data.
  • Produce research content at consistent intervals with the ability to manage independently short- and long-term deadlines.
  • Deliver data-driven research insights through a variety of content formats including written reports and infographics.
