This ECI Live explores data found in the Global Business Ethics Survey® (GBES®) relating to pressure to bend the rules. ECI looked at how an organization’s ethical behaviors, in key areas like observed misconduct and retaliation, were affected by an increase in pressure to bend the rules.

ABOUT GBES:

The Global Business Ethics Survey® (GBES®) is a rigorous, multi-country inquiry into worker conduct and workplace integrity, providing insight into workplace ethics in both public and private sector organizations. GBES is the flagship research project of the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI). Each year, ECI conducts the GBES and reports findings in four reports.

  • Alicia Olmstead
    Alicia Olmstead
    Global Ethics & Compliance Consultant, Dell Inc.

    Alicia Olmstead is a Global Ethics & Compliance Consultant for Dell Technologies where she oversees the Global Ethics Program which includes conflicts of interest, gifts & hospitality, anti-retaliation and speaking up. Before working for Dell, Alicia was a Senior Ethics Program Advisor at USAA and the Assistant Integrity Officer for the City of Austin in Austin, Texas. Her 14 years of experience spans both public and private sector and reaches into all facets of ethics programming. She created the City of Austin’s first fully developed ethics program, and at USAA she organized the first company-wide Ethics & Compliance Event and designed an award winning-ethics training module. Alicia has had the pleasure of working for two World’s Most Ethical Companies and contributes regularly to industry conferences and working groups. She holds an M.S. in Organizational Leadership & Ethics from St. Edward’s University and an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University. Alicia lives in San Antonio, TX with her husband and two sons.

    Vice President, Research & Analytics, Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI)

    Evren has nearly two decades of experience conducting workplace research. She brings research leadership skills to ECI as head of the team that manages the implementation, analysis and reporting of ECI’s premier, longitudinal study on workplace integrity, the Global Business Ethics Survey®(GBES®).

    Evren also oversees ECI’s Advisory Services, engaging with clients utilizing ECI’s tools to assist organizations in assessing, improving and strengthening their workplace culture.

    Before joining ECI, Evren worked at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for 15 years. As director of workforce analytics, Evren led SHRM’s survey research projects on HR topics, including employee benefits, job satisfaction and engagement. She also served as the organization’s media spokesperson on workplace research.

    Evren holds a bachelor of science in biology from Virginia Tech, a master’s of social work from Radford University and a graduate certificate in survey design and analysis from George Washington University.

    Melissa Fraser
    Senior Survey Researcher, Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI)

    Melissa Fraser is ECI’s Senior Survey Researcher responsible for the Global Business Ethics Survey® (GBES®). Melissa is a published author and seasoned public speaker with over 10 years’ experience in research, assessment design, and statistical data analysis. Melissa earned her Master of Experimental Psychology degree from St. John’s University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

    When Melissa is not nose-deep in data analytics you will find her with her husband and two dogs; a dachshund and her bullmastiff service dog.

  • Steve Guymon
    Steve Guymon
    Senior Advisor, Global Ethics and Compliance Capabilities, Eli Lilly and Company

    Steve Guymon is the Senior Advisor of Ethics and Compliance Strategy and Capabilities for Eli Lilly and Company. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah, is a certified Black Belt in Lean and Six Sigma and has LPEC certification. He has over 30 years experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry and has worked in roles in ethics and compliance, Six Sigma, training, sales leadership, marketing and clinical research. He joined Eli Lilly and Company in 1996. Prior to Lilly, he worked for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. He is a regular speaker and facilitator at compliance and training conferences.
