About the Award

Since 2010, the ECI has presented the Marshall Award to an ethics & compliance practitioner whose achievements exemplify the leadership and innovative practices modeled by the late Carol R. Marshall. Carol took an innovative approach to implementing E&C programs and served the E&C profession with many hours of dedicated volunteer activities and mentorship. ECI commemorates her accomplishments by recognizing the achievements of those who follow in her footsteps.

2023 Award Recipient

We were pleased to announce that during ECI’s annual conference, IMPACT 2023, that Katie Lawler, EVP, Global Chief Ethics Officer for U.S. Bancorp is this year’s award recipient of the Carol R. Marshall Award. Thank you to KPMG for their commitment in funding this award through 2024, and for recognizing a leader that has made a true impact in the E&C field.

Award Criteria

  • Serves (or who has served) as Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer or the equivalent in a business or government organization and is currently employed within that organization.
  • Demonstrates (or has demonstrated) innovation in:
    • Establishing an ethics and compliance program;
    • Building on an existing program; and/or
    • Advancing the ethics and compliance field.
  • Provides a role model for emerging leaders in ethics and compliance.
